User Permissions

There are three types of users: admin users, standard users, and email-only users.

You can also see a list of everything that different kinds of users can do through the account portal below.

Admin users

Admin users have full permission to modify any aspect of your MaxMind account. They can access all items in the Account portal, create new users, modify user permissions, and deactivate users. Admin users can deactivate or change the permissions of other admin users. There must always be at least one admin user per account.

If you ever deactivate an admin user, we recommend replacing your account’s existing license keys as a security precaution. See a list of everything that admin users can do in the chart below.

Standard Users

Standard users can be given billing permissions, or product/service permissions, or both.

Standard users with billing permissions

Standard users with billing permissions can update the account contact information, update payment methods and view payment history, purchase web service funds or set up auto-recharge for your web service funds, purchase or cancel database subscriptions, and view your query usage. See a list of everything that standard users with billing permissions can do in the chart below.

Standard users with product/service permissions

Standard users with product/service permissions can view your web service query usage, as well as access your web services directly through the account portal, and download databases.

Specifically, if your account has access to minFraud, users with the product/service permission can use the account portal to query minFraud, set up custom rules, and search transaction history. Learn more about using minFraud through the account portal.

If your account has access to GeoIP2 web services, users with the product/service permission can query the services via the account portal. Learn more about looking up IP addresses using the account portal.

If your account has database subscriptions, users with the product/service permission can download databases. Learn more about downloading databases.

See a list of everything that standard users with product/service permissions can do in the chart below.

Email users

Email-only users cannot login to the account portal to manage your account or their own user login. Email-only users receive email notifications.
