Some GeoIP2 products and services contain information about IP networks and connections. IP network data in GeoIP2 products and services includes:
- the connection type,
- ISP and organization,
- mobile country and network codes,
- autonomous system number and organization,
- and the domain name of an IP address.
This data can be used to get a better understanding of the visitors to your site. For example, you can use connection type data to identify which IPs belong to cellular networks, and combine this with ISP data to determine which mobile network carrier (AT&T, Verizon, etc.) the IP is using.
Connection type data
Connection type data includes information about the type of connection to the internet that a particular IP address is using. We identify the following types of connections:
| Cable/DSL | A stand in for all kinds of high-speed consumer internet connections (including DSL, cable, fiber, satellite connections, etc.). |
| Corporate | A business network connection (for example, a business VPN used for work from home employees; coverage only includes very large corporations). |
| Cellular | A mobile network connection (including 3G, 4G, 5G, LTE, and other kinds of mobile networks). |
| Satellite | Satellite internet providers such as Starlink, Viasat, and Hughes. Satellite connections typically have higher latency than cable/DSL connections. |

ISP and organization data
ISP data tells you the name of the ISP (internet service provider) associated with the IP address. It also includes the name of the organization associated with the IP address. Our data includes tens of thousands of ISPs and organizations from all over the world.
In addition, the ISP and organization will identify the name of the carrier for mobile networks (networks with a user type or connection type set to cellular). Mobile country and network codes
Mobile country codes (MCC) and mobile network codes (MNC) can be used together to identify a mobile network carrier. If an IP address is part of a mobile network, we may return the MCC and MNC. Learn more about mobile codes on Wikipedia.
