You can update your payment method at any time through your account portal. Your account can only have one payment method on file, which will be charged for recurring database subscriptions and web service auto-recharges, if these are set up. Learn more about managing your subscriptions or setting up auto-recharge.
If you would like to change the credit card on file, click on ‘Payment Method’ under the Account menu in your account portal [direct link, login required]. This feature is restricted to admin users and standard users with billing permission.
From this screen, you can add your credit card, or update it.
Please note that the payment method on file is always the last method used for a transaction unless you manually update your payment method through the account portal to change it.
Switch to PayPal as your payment method
A purchase is required in order to set your PayPal account as your account’s payment method. While the MaxMind account portal does allow you to update credit card information without a purchase, PayPal account information can only be entered through our checkout system.
If you are using service credit, you can switch to PayPal by logging in to your account, and then purchasing service credit using PayPal. PayPal will then automatically be saved as your current method on file.
If you are using databases and you already have an active subscription in place, you will have to cancel it so that you can establish a new subscription with PayPal as your payment method. If you cancel your current subscription, you will not lose any of the time remaining on the subscription, and the new subscription you purchase will be added to the term of your existing subscription. Follow these steps:
- Cancel your subscription to one of your GeoIP2 databases. Learn how to manage your database subscriptions.
- Now, purchase a new subscription to that GeoIP2 database using PayPal.
- PayPal will now be saved as your payment method on file.
