Set Up Single Sign-On (SSO) for Your MaxMind Account

Single Sign-On is an authentication method that allows users to sign in to multiple applications using a single set of credentials via an identity provider. For example, once MaxMind SSO is set up by an admin, your employees will be able to use the same username and password that they use for Google Workspace to sign in to MaxMind.

MaxMind does not support the automatic creation or deletion of users via identity provider.

MaxMind SSO uses the OpenID Connect (OIDC standard). OIDC allows third-party applications to verify the identity of the end-user and to obtain basic user profile information. MaxMind SSO should be compatible with most SSO providers that support the OIDC standard.

To enable SSO, you will need the following:

  • the Client ID (or Application ID) from the identity provider,
  • the Client Secret, which is a secret known only to the application and the authorization server,
  • and the provider URL, such as https://accounts.google.com

MaxMind account admins can enable SSO on the account portal [direct link, login required].

We have created guides for the most popular SSO providers:

One common error that you may encounter when setting up SSO is 'Failed to verify the claims from your identity provider against your username'. SSO configuration is case-sensitive. Usernames/emails must match exactly to the information on your MaxMind account.
