GeoLite Legacy databases are now discontinued

On January 2, 2019, we discontinued our GeoLite Legacy databases. This discontinuation was first announced on January 2, 2018.

GeoLite Legacy databases are no longer available for download. Attempting to download a GeoLite Legacy database file will result in the error: “Database edition not found”.

Free geolocation data is still available through our GeoLite2 databases.

How does this affect me?

GeoLite2 Commercial Redistribution Customers

If you use the GeoLite2 commercial redistribution license and are currently using the GeoLite2 databases as part of your business, you are not affected by the discontinuation of the GeoLite Legacy databases.

GeoLite Legacy Customers

If you are using the GeoLite Legacy databases, you will need to switch to the GeoLite2 databases and update your integrations for continued access to geolocation data. Like the GeoLite Legacy databases, the GeoLite2 databases are free. However, you will need to update your GeoLite Legacy integrations to work with GeoLite2 databases.

Why should I use GeoLite2?

GeoLite2 databases are free, more contemporary versions of the GeoLite Legacy geolocation databases. They are comparable to, but less accurate than, MaxMind’s GeoIP2 databases (learn more). They are also IPv6 compatible, and commercial redistribution licensing is available. You can learn more about the GeoLite2 commercial redistribution license here.

Without updates, a downloaded database file will become increasingly inaccurate over time, as IP geolocation data changes frequently. The GeoLite2 Country and City databases are updated on the first Tuesday of each month, and the GeoLite2 ASN database is updated weekly on Tuesdays.
